Galway Boston vs Connemara Gaels
Sunday, June 1st 3:30pm
Galway Boston 3-12 | Connemara Gaels 1-16
The afternoon began with a minute’s silence in memory of Jimmy Sullivan, a cherished figure within the Connemara Gaels club. Once the whistle blew, the pace quickened immediately, with Galway Boston’s Nathan Grainger setting the tone—first converting a free, then striking a 45 off the ground to give Galway an early two-point lead.
Jamie O’Brien soon got the Gaels on the scoreboard with a well-taken point from play before Galway won a penalty—only to see it brilliantly saved by Gaels goalkeeper Steven Murray.
The Gaels leveled the match through Cian McMahon after Dylan Murtagh winning a kickout, they soon pushed ahead with McMahon again kicking the first 2-pointer of the afternoon.
A turnover near midfield brought on a Gaels counterattack, ending with Cian Folan finding the back of the net and raising a green flag to make it 1-4 to 0-3 in Gaels favour.
Eoin Bagnall added to the Gaels’ tally with a point from play. A kickout won by Paudi Behan made its way to Grainger inside to score Galway’s first goal. 1-3 to 1-5 in the Gaels favour. A 2-pointer from Bagnall stretched the Gaels advantage before Galway’s Tom O’Connor clipped over a point to reduce the gap. At the break, it was 1-7 to 1-4 in favor of the Gaels.
Half-time: Galway Boston 1-4 | Connemara Gaels 1-7
Galway’s Eoin Morrissey hit the net early to draw the sides level at 2-5 to 1-7, and a further point momentarily nudged Galway ahead.
But the Gaels hit back emphatically with four points one after another—Cian McMahon, Jamie O’Brien, Cian Folan, and Eoin Bagnall all registering to swing it back in the Gaels favor, 1-11 to 2-5.
Grainger, instrumental all game, struck again—this time with a 2-pointer, followed with two points from play by Galway’s Jack Lawlor, and suddenly Galway were back in front by one. Bagnall kept the Gaels ticking with a point to level again.
But Grainger wasn’t finished. He hit his second 2-pointer of the half, and although Bagnall responded yet again, Galway hit another point over the bar to bring it to 2-12 to 1-13.
The Gaels weren’t going away. They narrowed the gap by scoring two more points—but then came the moment that sealed it: Galway were awarded a second penalty, and this time they made no mistake, burying it to take a four-point lead with time winding down.
The Gaels’ final response came via Eoin Bagnall—his fifth point of the half—but time ran out, and Galway Boston held on for a deserved 3-12 to 1-16 victory.
