Galway Boston vs Aidan McAnespies

Sunday, August 3rd 5:30pm

Galway Boston 3-20 | Aidan McAnespies 3-15

Galway Boston advanced to the Northeast final following a high-scoring contest with Aidan McAnespies. A minutes silence was observed before the game in memory of Aidan McAnespies clubmen Tony Burke & Jamie Doolin. McAnespies players wore black arm bands in their memory.

Jack O’Neill opened the scoring for Galway with a 2-pointer straight from the throw-in, setting the tone early. Captain Ciarán Potter and O’Neill added fisted points to put Galway four ahead before the Macs got off the mark with points from Ronan Buckley and Conor Love.

Galway struck for their first goal after Senan Baker burst through the Macs defence and finished well, 1-4 to 0-2. The Macs responded in kind when Conor Love found the back of the net in soccer-style fashion, and Eoin Gormley added a second goal shortly after to flip the lead. A point from Conall Devlin made it 1-4 to 2-3 in favor of the Macs.

Galway hit back with Nathan Grainger adding a free and a 2-pointer to edge them ahead. The pressure kept coming as Jack Lawlor, Cian Hernon, and Grainger all added 2-pointers in quick succession.

A high ball from Love into the Galway square saw Gormley hit it over for a point, but Galway replied through Paudi Behan after a link-up with Michael Moylan. Zac Firman pointed for the Macs just before the break.

Half-time: Galway Boston 1-15 | Aidan McAnespies 2-5

Galway resumed with a point from Grainger, before Michael Moylan picked out Eoin Morrissey inside who finished for Galway’s second goal, 2-16 to 2-5.

Shane McGinley came off the bench for the Mac and quickly made a difference, finishing a fine goal, set up by a Conor Buckley kick pass. Grainger replied with another free, but McGinley added a point to keep the Macs fighting.

Jack O’Neill then struck for Galway’s third goal, hitting the top right corner after being set up by Lewis Ryan. He added a point shortly after, assisted by Declan Doyle, and Baker extended the lead further, 3-19 to 3-7.

Buckley and O’Neill traded points before three 2-pointers in a row for the Macs late. Robbie Croft converting a free off the ground, followed by 2-pointers from Dylan Byrne and Conall Devlin.
