Galway Boston came out on top in a hard-fought encounter with Connemara Gaels on Sunday afternoon.


The Gaels started brightly with Eoin Bagnall and Cillian Ó Curraoin raising early white flags. Galway responded through Senan Baker, but the Gaels pushed on. Ó Curraoin struck for a 2-pointer, and Dylan Murtagh added another from play before Sean Kelly broke through for a well-finished goal to give Gaels a strong lead.


Ó Curraoin added another 2-pointer and Kelly followed with a point to extend the margin, 1-8 to 0-2.


Galway clawed their way back through two Nathan Grainger frees, one from outside the arc to make it a 2-pointer. Jack Lawlor then found the net after Jack O’Neill kicked it to him inside, to cut the deficit to three.


The sides exchanged points through Murtagh for the Gaels and Lawlor for Galway. Grainger converted two more frees, including another from outside the arc for a 2-pointer, to bring the sides level at the break.

Galway started the second half strong. Senan Baker turned over possession and found Cian Hernon, who made no mistake in finishing to the net. Grainger added a point to push Galway four ahead.


Gaels Jack Lynch was shown a black card, leaving them with 12 for 10 minutes. Galway’s Paudi Behan added a point off his left.


Ó Curraoin kept the Gaels in touch with a point, but Galway stretched their lead with a 2-pointer from Grainger. Bagnall replied in kind with a 2-pointer for the Gaels.


Grainger pointed a free before Bagnall added two successive 2-pointers to reduce the margin to one, 2-14 to 1-16. Bagnall then pointed a free to level the game heading into the final stages.


Galway found scores through Jack O’Neill and Grainger. In a tense finish, both sides pressed for scores, and Grainger landed another 2-pointer from a free. Bagnall had the final say with a late point, but Galway held on for the win.
