Kerry and Shannon Blues started off the Northeast Senior Football Championship action of the day in rainy conditions in Canton.
The Blues got on the board first with a point from Greg Horan straight off the throw-in. Kerry responded through Jim Lynch, and Rob Stack followed up with a 2-pointer to make it 0-3 to 0-1.
Cian O’Connor struck a 2-pointer at the other end to level things, and Conor Fitzgerald added a point to put the Blues ahead. Kerry leveled through a well-struck 45 from Nevin O’Donnell.
Luke Breathnach and Stack pointed to edge Kerry ahead, and Lynch added a fisted effort to push the lead to 0-7 to 0-4. The Blues then overturned a Kerry attack, with Barra Ryan and Michael McSorley linking up to find Greg Horan who pointed from the play.
Kerry closed the half strongly. Stack converted a free for a 2-pointer and followed up with a another point to give Kerry a six-point cushion at the break.

The Blues started the second half strongly. McSorley pointed, Horan added another from a free, and O’Connor landed a 2-pointer. McSorley’s next point reduced the gap to just one, 0-11 to 0-10.
Kerry’s Eoin Duffy pointed following a turnover of a Blues attack, and further scores from Breathnach and Stack pushed the gap back to four.
But the Blues kept coming. Jordan Kissane swung over a point off his left, and McSorley converted another free. Breathnach replied for Kerry, but the Blues continued to chip away.
McSorley’s goal attempt deflected off the keeper for a point, and Kissane pointed again to bring it back to a one-point game.
The Blues worked the ball patiently, and it was Callum McClorey who burst through the Kerry defence before hand passing it in to Barra Ryan, who made no mistake and buried it in into the back of the net, the Blues were now ahead by two, 1-14 to 0-15.
Kerry’s Niall O’Connor and a Stack free leveled the game. Gavin Connolly edged the Blues back in front once more, and Kerry pushed for a late goal but saw their effort come off the post.
