Sun June 25- Shannon Blues v Donegal- Men's Intermediate Football

The Men’s Intermediate game between Shannon Blues and Donegal got off to a lively start. The Blues number 9, Lee Deignan got the scoring started with a goal in the first few minutes. Two points followed for Donegal’s number 8, Niall Murphy and number 17. Determined to hold onto their advantage, Blue’s number 5, Eoin Clifford made an impressive run and finished with a goal. Donegal’s Eoin De Burca (10) tried a copycat goal straight after but the Blue’s goalie, Nik Alrarian (1) made an excellent save.

Asserting their dominance, the Blues saw another goal at the hands of Gearoid Hassett (13), whose powerful score was their third goal of the match. There was no denying that Shannon Blues looked the better of the two teams at this point, and the score reflected that. The Blues made a substitution, sending in substitute number 22, Patrick Moylan, for Teddy Shay (6). After a few minutes of low scoring, and a few points from Donegal, the first half finished with a score of 3-03 to Shannon Blues and Donegal 0-9.

Lee Deignan (9) wasted no time in the second half, with two consecutive points. Donegal’s Mark McFadden (12) followed up with the first score for his side. Perhaps it was the narrow gap in score or the heat to blame, for the high tensions between the teams. Each score was matched by an equally desperate attempt from the other side. Shannon Blues relied heavily on the skill of Lee Deignan (9), a Sligo man who belongs to the Shamrock Gaels club at home.

A goal from the Blues’ number 15 put them back at a safe advantage. Donegal’s desperation was clear as they fought tirelessly. Points bounced back and forth between the two sides. With not long left, Donegal’s number 11, Fionnan Coyle, struck a goal, putting Donegal just two points behind. With scoring from both sides, the Blues were one point up with a minute to go. Blues’ number 14 kicked the final score of the game, securing the win for Shannon Blues and putting an end to an excellent game of football with an exciting end.
