The Ladies Junior Championship served up a high-scoring affair on Sunday as Boston Shamrocks and Connacht Ladies played out in a wide-open clash under the heat in Canton.
The throw-in was claimed by Connacht’s Emma Lynch, who drove forward and won an early 45, Shamrocks overturned possession and it was Clodagh Lyons who found the net to open the scoring. Connacht hit back with points from Ellie Carr and Lynda Galvin.
The Shamrocks found the net again, this time through Emma O’Connor. Jane Ward and Deirbhile Ní Cheallaigh clipped over points for Connacht. The score stood at 2-0 to 0-4 in Shamrocks’ favour.
Julie Cronin added a point for Shamrocks before they were awarded a penalty. Silvana Doherty’s shot came back off the post, but Shauna Higgins won possession back for Shamrocks and passed it off to Emma O’Connor who buried the rebound.
After the water break, Connacht made a change in goal with Aisling Kerr replacing Olivia Murphy. Claire Naughton added a point for Shamrocks to stretch their lead to 3-2 to 0-4.
Connacht hit back. Emma Lynch won a free after a solo run, and Deirbhile Ní Cheallaigh added a point. A penalty followed at the other end and Connacht’s Elizabeth McGarvey made no mistake to bring it back to 3-2 to 1-5.
Shamrocks Ciara McGovern broke from midfield and finished to the net for their fourth goal. Three more points followed, courtesy of Aoife Gillespie, Eimear O’Neill, and a Julie Cronin free. Cronin was again involved, winning a kickout and feeding Colleen Hughes for a point. Jane Ward had the final say of the half with a point for Connacht.

Lynch won the second half throw-in and pointed straight away. Shamrocks earned a 45, and the loose ball found Aoife Gillespie who struck for goal. Connacht’s Ciara Forde replied with a point.
Shamrocks struck again. Gillespie grabbed her second of the day, this time assisted by Ciara McGovern. Connacht responded with points from Jane Ward and Áine O’Connor, who fisted hers over the bar.
Julie Cronin kept the Shamrocks ticking with a pointed free, but Connacht closed in again with their second goal, Deirbhile Ní Cheallaigh finishing neatly to the net to make it 6-7 to 2-11.
Another Shamrocks goal came from Ciara Butler before Connacht replied with three well-taken points from Jane Ward, Elizabeth McGarvey, and Áine O’Connor all on target. At 7-7 to 2-14, the game was still very much alive.
Emma Lynch won a kickout and worked her way forward before finding the net for Connacht’s third goal. Ava Hartigan added a point to cut the margin to four.
Niamh Doherty and Rachel Moran pointed before Clodagh Lyons and Aisling Reynolds added two more goals to put the result beyond doubt. Connacht’s final point came from Ciara Forde, who fisted over after a swift move.
