Donegal Boston vs Wolfetones Boston
Sunday, July 13th 2pm
Donegal Boston 1-17 | Wolfetones Boston 0-11
Sunday’s Men’s Intermediate Football Championship continued with a clash between Donegal and Wolfetones.
The game began with a quick burst from Donegal. Senan Carr opened the scoring with a free, and from the next kickout, Sean Kelly won possession and found Daniel Reilly who slotted over. Carr added another soon after to make it three without reply.
Wolfetones settled with a fine left-footed point from Ben Martin, and Mark Coffey followed with another after good work by Cillian Reidy up the middle, 0-3 to 0-2.
Donegal answered with three more points. Daniel Reilly and two from Killian Doherty pushed them four ahead. The Tones pulled back a couple, Martin (free) and Coffey on target to leave just two in it, 0-6 to 0-4.
Wolfetones pressed again but Donegal overturned a key attack after a shot was blocked down. Reilly pointed, followed by two from Carr, one from a free and one from play to open up a five-point gap.
The Tones rallied again. Dylan Murtagh, Rory Collins, and Sean Hickey knocked over three in a row to close the gap once more, but Donegal had the last word before the break. Sean Kelly pointed and Reilly added a well-taken two-pointer to give Donegal a strong cushion at the half.
Half-time: Donegal Boston 0-12 | Wolfetones Boston 0-7
Wolfetones got the second half started with a point from Hickey, reacting quickest after Mark Coffey’s effort came off the post. Donegal responded in emphatic fashion, Eamon Óg Blaney breaking through and finishing to the net for the game’s only goal.
Donegal were reduced to 12 men when Ryan McMahon was shown a second yellow, but they didn’t let up. Coffey made a good solo run to point for the Tones, but Donegal kept the scoreboard ticking. Simon Finn and Ronan Donnelly added two more, and after Cillian Reidy went off injured for the Tones, Donegal's Daniel Reilly and Senan Carr stretched the lead further, now 1-16 to 0-9.
Cormac Joyce-Power added a point for the Tones, but Carr hit back with one more for Donegal.
Donegal pushed for a second goal late on, but Gavin Walsh stood firm with a good save. Wolfetones Coffey scored the final point of the day.
