Sun June 30- Senior Football: Wolfe Tones v Aidan McAnespies

In the last game of a very temperamental day, which lead to tricky conditions, the Wolftones met Aidan McAnespies in the Boston Senior Football Championship. McAnespies were looking to continue their unbeaten run in the Championship, while the Wolftones were looking to get back on their winning ways after their loss to the Connemara Gaels last weekend.

Darragh Kennedy about to net for the Tones.
The Tones started the scoring with a point from Corner Forward Chris Sallier. On the next play, Center Forward Ronan Jones was taken off due to a misaligned tackle which left the player with a split nose. Darragh Kennedy would come on as a Blood Substitution, and would end up staying on as Jones was unable to return to action. The Wolftones and McAnespies would go score for score until McAnespies scored 6 unanswered points with a flurry of attacks from corner forwards Tony Brosnan and Robbie Smyth. It looked like McAnespies were going to run away with the game until blood sub Kennedy scored a goal to swing the momentum once again as Chris Sallier would score 3 unanswered frees to tie the game. McAnespies would react though as they nearly scored a goal of their own only for the Tones goalkeeper to save a 1 on 1 challenge. Two points from Robbie Smyth and a point from Chris Sallier would round off the first half where the score was Wolftones 1-6 McAnespies 0-10.

A determined looking Peter O'Connell on the ball.
The second half would begin with a point from play for Wolftones player Ryan O’Neill to level the game. This would be the last time the teams would be level as once again McAnespies went on a scoring spree, as points from Dr. Crokes player Tony Brosnan and a goal from home based player Robbie Smyth would give McAnespies a 7 point lead. While the Wolftones would score 2 goals from Wing Forward Jack Hannon, and substitute Brendan Carroll, the constant attacking force from the McAnespies would put the game beyond the Wolftones grasp in a hard fought battle.  The sending off of Paschal Connell brought the curtains down on a tough day at the office for the Tones, as Aidan McAnespies would win this encounter 1-20 to 3-9.
