The game got off to a slow start, with the opening six minutes remaining scoreless.
The Macs were awarded a penalty after a 1v1 between Adam Fallon and Adam Fanning resulted in Fallon being shown a black card. Mark Barry stepped up to the mark and made no mistake in finding the back of the net for the Macs.
The following Gaels attack resulted in a free, but Shea Lawn's effort struck the post and the Macs were there to collect it. The Gaels won back possession but were turned over again and the Macs broke forward. A strong run from Mark Barry resulted in a point for the Macs.
Jake Flynn won the next kickout for the Macs and Ronan Fox pointed from play. Eoin Gormley then broke down the next kickout and worked the ball forward before Ronan Fox added another point, making it 1-3 to no score after 11 minutes.
Eoin Gormley broke down another Gaels kickout and linked up with Caoilin Donnelly to bring the ball forward. Donnelly and Adam Fanning combined before Fanning hand-passed across goal for Mark Barry to tap home the Macs' second goal, making it 2-3 to no score.
The Macs pushed for another goal shortly afterwards. Darragh Lyne drove forward and linked up with Fanning, but his effort was well saved by Gaels goalkeeper Josh Woods.
Conall Devlin turned over a Gaels attack and kick-passed forward to Mark Barry, who pointed for the Macs. Barry added another point from a free to leave the scoreboard reading 2-5 to no score after 20 minutes.
Brian Friel was forced off through injury for the Gaels and was replaced by Conor Flynn. The Macs added another point through Darragh Lyne before Cillian Curran pointed a free for the Gaels just before the half-time whistle.

The second half got underway and Ger Davoren tapped the throw-in to Shea Lawn, who kicked the ball inside to Cillian Curran. Curran turned and pointed for the Gaels. Caoilin Donnelly and Luke Killian responded with a point each for the Macs, making it 2-8 to 0-2.
The Macs added another goal when Mark Barry linked up with Nicky Sherlock, who hand-passed across to Stephen Ward who tapped it into the net, extending the lead to 3-8 to 0-2.
The Gaels attacked next and Aidan Tierney pointed for his side. Mark Barry then added three more points for the Macs, one of which came from a free, to make it 3-11 to 0-3.
Cillian Curran converted another free for the Gaels after Shea Lawn was fouled near the 20-metre line. Jimmy Lowe then added a point following a patient attack, reducing the deficit to 3-11 to 0-5.
Mark Barry added another point for the Macs before the Gaels replied through Cillian Curran.
Pete O'Connell added a point for the Macs. The Gaels responded through Jamie O'Brien to leave the scoreboard reading 3-13 to 0-7.
Eoin Gormley fisted over the next point for the Macs. Luke Killian cleared up a loose ball in the Macs defence and linked up with Jake Flynn and Barry before the play found its way to Donnelly, who fired home the Macs' fourth and final goal of the afternoon, making it 4-14 to 0-7.
Pete O'Connell then linked up with Eoin Gormley, who fisted another point over the bar before adding another point off his left foot. The scoreboard read 4-16 to 0-7.
The Gaels finally found the back of the net after breaking through the Macs defence. Mike Lynch's shot was well saved by the Macs goalkeeper, Cormac McCartan but Jamie O'Brien reacted quickest to the rebound and kicked it from the ground to the net, making it 4-16 to 1-7.
Mark Barry converted another free for the Macs before Cillian Curran replied with a point for the Gaels. Barry added a final free for the Macs before the referee blew the final whistle.
