Galway opened the scoring of the game through a point from Nathan Grainger. Kerry replied with a point from Stephen Palmer before Cormac Dillon got Kerry's second score after linking up with Kevin Lahiff following a free. Lahiff then fisted over another point to make it 0-3 to 0-1 in Kerry's favour after 10 minutes.
Cormac Dillon swung over a 2-pointer to put Kerry four points ahead. Stephen Palmer added another point for Kerry just before the water break.
Following the water break, Galway's Ciarán Potter drove forward and hand-passed inside to Cathal Sweeney, who buried the ball in the back of the net for Galway's opening goal. Kerry replied through Cormac Dillon after Kevin Lahiff's kick pass found him inside, making it 1-1 to 0-7 after 22 minutes.
Galway broke through the Kerry defence again and Nathan Grainger found the back of the net to level the game at 2-1 to 0-7. Kerry responded with a point from Stephen Palmer to edge back in front.
Galway were then awarded a penalty and Senan Baker stepped up to take it. He made no mistake in finding the back of the net for Galway's third goal of the afternoon, putting his side 3-1 to 0-8 ahead.
Joe Cooper won Galway's short kickout and the ball found its way to Stephen Palmer, who tapped over another point for Kerry.
Galway finished the half with points from Eoin Morrissey and Darragh Swords, while Stephen Palmer converted a 2-pointer for Kerry just before the half-time whistle.

Kerry opened the second half with a point from Darragh Clifford before Joe Cooper added a 2-pointer to put Kerry two points in front, 3-3 to 0-14.
Galway responded when Declan Doyle won the kickout and linked up with Shea Ryan, who found Nathan Grainger. Grainger made no mistake in finding the back of the net for Galway's fourth and final goal to put his side back in front, 4-3 to 0-14.
Kerry added another point through Darragh Clifford to level the game before they were awarded a penalty. Cormac Dillon stepped up, but his effort was brilliantly saved by Galway goalkeeper Owen Flaherty.
Senan Baker converted a Galway free to restore his side's lead before Cathal Sweeney added another point, making it 4-5 to 0-15. Darragh Clifford responded for Kerry before Stephen Palmer added another point to level the game at 4-5 to 0-17. Cormac Dillon then pointed just before the water break to put Kerry back in front.
Darragh Clifford opened the scoring after the break with another point for Kerry. Galway then turned over possession and Rian Teahan split the posts to make it 4-6 to 0-19. Cormac Dillon added another point to extend Kerry's lead to two.
Bobby Nugent came off the bench to point for Galway before substitute number 14 also got on the scoresheet to level the game once again at 4-8 to 0-20.
Cormac Dillon converted a free to put Kerry back in front by one.
Galway finished strongly, adding three unanswered points before the final whistle through Cathal Sweeney, Cillian McDonald and Nathan Grainger.
The referee blew the full-time whistle shortly afterwards as Galway claimed victory in another high-scoring championship encounter.
