Galway opened the scoring with a pointed free from Senan Baker. The Macs responded with a fisted point from Mark Barry before Galway attacked again. The Macs overturned possession and broke through the Galway defence, with the play finding its way to Mark Barry who split the posts for his side. Galway responded with a fisted point from Rian Teahan, leaving the scoreboard reading 0-2 apiece after eight minutes.
Galway were awarded a penalty and Senan Baker stepped up to take it, but his effort was well saved by Macs goalkeeper Cormac McCartan.
Dylan Byrne pointed next for the Macs with a 2-pointer off his left boot to put his side 0-4 to 0-2 ahead after 10 minutes.
Galway leveled the game through a 2-pointer from Senan Baker after he won a McAnespies kickout.
The Macs responded with a point from Adam Fanning following a kick pass inside from Darragh Lyne.
Galway broke through the Macs defence when Callum Bolton hand-passed inside to Rian Teahan, but Teahan's goal effort was well saved by Cormac McCartan.
Galway then took the lead through a 2-point free from Nathan Grainger to make it 0-6 to 0-5 after 15 minutes.
The Macs got back in front after Adam Fanning converted a 2-pointer before adding another point shortly afterwards to leave the scoreboard at 0-8 to 0-6 in favour of the Macs.
The next two scores came from pointed frees, with Senan Baker converting for Galway and Mark Barry replying for the Macs to leave it 0-9 to 0-7.
Galway patiently worked their next attack and Rian Teahan pointed to narrow the gap to one before Senan Baker converted another free to level the game at nine points apiece.
Mark Barry added another point for the Macs shortly before the half-time whistle.

The Macs opened the scoring of the second half with Eoin Gormley fisting over a point before Mark Barry converted a free to put his side three points ahead, 0-12 to 0-9.
Galway responded with a point from Cillian McDonald before Galway won the resulting kickout, allowing Rian Teahan to split the posts and narrow the gap back to one. Senan Baker then converted a free to level the game once again.
Galway edged in front through Eoin Morrissey before Conall Devlin leveled the game for the sixth time with a point for the Macs. Cathal Sweeney restored Galway's lead before Mark Barry replied to level matters again at 14 points each.
A block from Eoin Gormley in the Macs half-back line sparked a quick counter-attack, with the ball finding Mark Barry who made no mistake in finding the back of the net to put the Macs ahead, 1-14 to 0-14.
The Macs won the resulting kickout and attacked again immediately, with Darragh Lyne finding the back of the net for a second goal inside a minute to leave the scoreboard at 2-14 to 0-14.
The Macs added two more points through Bobby Walker and Adam Fanning to stretch their advantage to eight points.
Senan Baker responded with a pointed free before converting a 2-pointer for Galway to begin the comeback.
Substitute Patrick Egan won a Galway kickout and linked up with Darragh O'Sullivan in a one-two before finishing to the back of the net to reduce the gap to two points, 1-17 to 2-16. Galway added another point through Rian Teahan to make it a one-point game.
Mark Barry converted a free for the Macs to restore a two-point advantage before Senan Baker replied with another free for Galway. Patrick Egan then won another kickout and pointed to level the game at 1-20 to 2-17.
Galway finished the stronger side, adding two points from play through Rian Teahan and Declan Doyle before Senan Baker converted a 2-point free at the very end to seal a four-point victory.
