Both teams got underway with a wide each before the Blues made a flying start, scoring 2-4 without reply in the opening stages.
Blake Murphy got the Blues going with a 2-pointer before their opening goal shortly followed. Murphy delivered a long ball into Brendan O'Hagan, who tapped it into the back of the net. Murphy then added another 2-pointer to extend the Blues' early advantage.
Dean Sherlock won the next kickout for the Blues and kicked it down to Ryan O'Donnell, who hand-passed across to Blake Murphy. Murphy made no mistake in burying the ball into the back of the net for the Blues' second goal of the game.
Conor Flynn got the Gaels on the scoreboard with a point off his left foot. Blake Murphy then linked up with Ryan O'Donnell from a free before Murphy split the posts. The Gaels had a goal chance next, but their effort was well saved by the Blues goalkeeper.
The Gaels added two points through Cillian Curran and Jack Lynch to make it 2-5 to 0-3. The Blues finished the half strongly with two more points, both coming from Blake Murphy.

The Blues opened the second-half scoring with a point from Ryan Nugent. The Gaels responded when they broke through the Blues defence and Shea Lawn found the back of the net. Lawn quickly followed with a 2-pointer to reduce the deficit to 2-8 to 1-5, five minutes into the second half.
The Blues added another point through Paddy Kelly before Charlie O'Connor won a kickout, drove forward and split the posts. The Gaels patiently worked their next attack and Seán Hansbury pointed before Cillian Curran converted a 2-pointer just before the water break to leave the scoreboard reading 2-10 to 1-8.
Cillian Gannon added another point for the Gaels after Jack Lynch kicked a pass inside to him. Blake Murphy converted a 2-point free for the Blues before Paddy Kelly won a kickout and linked up with substitute number 22, who buried the ball into the back of the net.
The Gaels responded with two consecutive 2-point frees, both converted by Shea Lawn, to make it 3-13 to 1-13 with four minutes of normal time remaining. Lawn then added another point to reduce the gap to five.
Substitute number 16 fisted over a point for the Blues after a hand pass inside from Paddy Kelly. The Blues then got their fourth and final goal of the afternoon when Paddy Kelly linked up with substitute number 14 before finishing to the net.
Cillian Curran converted another 2-point free for the Gaels to make it 4-14 to 1-16. Substitute number 16 added one final point for the Blues before the referee brought the game to a close.
