Donegal Boston 2-14 | Connemara Gaels 1-12

Donegal opened the scoring with a point from Jordan Morris. The Gaels got on the attack next, but Donegal turned over possession and broke forward, with their effort drifting wide.

Seán O’Donnell added Donegal’s next point to put his side two ahead. Tommy Gill then broke through the Donegal defence and pointed off his left for the Gaels, leaving the scoreboard at 0-2 to 0-1 after seven minutes.

Patrick Lynch pointed a free for Donegal before Shea Lawn responded with a free at the other end to leave just a point between the sides, 0-3 to 0-2.

Donegal attacked again and Thomas Galligan clipped over a 2-pointer to put his side three ahead. The Gaels replied immediately with a 2-pointer from Shea Lawn to reduce the deficit to one. Donegal were then awarded another free and Patrick Lynch converted to make it 0-6 to 0-4.

Donegal added another free through Jordan Morris before Johnny Heaney burst through the Gaels defence and handpassed across to Jordan Morrissey. Morrissey’s effort came back off the post, but Alex Warren reacted quickest to the rebound and fired the ball into the back of the net to give Donegal a commanding lead, 1-7 to 0-4.

The Gaels added a point before the break when Seán Black kicked a long ball inside to Ryan Conlon, who split the posts.

Half-time:

Donegal made the perfect start to the second half with a goal straight from the throw-in. Thomas Galligan drove forward before linking up with Alex Warren, who handpassed across to Jordan Morrissey, and he made no mistake in finding the back of the net to make it 2-8 to 0-5.

The Gaels responded with a 2-pointer from Conor Flynn. Patrick Lynch added another free for Donegal before converting a 2-point free shortly afterwards to extend Donegal’s advantage to 2-11 to 0-7.

The Gaels hit back with two successive points from substitute Oisín Gormley to leave the scoreboard reading 2-11 to 0-9. Donegal replied through a point from Jordan Morrissey with 10 minutes of normal time remaining.

Jamie O’Brien came off the bench to point for the Gaels before Shea Lawn added another 2-pointer to reduce the deficit to six, 2-12 to 0-12.

Ger Davoren won a kickout for the Gaels and delivered a long ball inside to Oisín Gormley, who found the back of the net to make it 2-12 to 1-12 with three minutes of normal time remaining.

Donegal responded with a pointed free from Johnny Heaney before substitute #20 came off the bench to add a point just before the final whistle.

The referee blew the full-time whistle shortly afterwards as Donegal secured another important championship victory.
