The Wolf Tones took the win against Christopher’s last Saturday, maintaining an impressive lead throughout. The Wolf Tone’s set the ‘tone’ early in the first half, winning the throw in and obtaining a goal at the hands of number 10, Sean Moore. Christopher’s retaliated with a point from number 13, Arthur Coakley. The Wolf Tone’s forward line was relentless, but Christopher’s goalie Patrick Kenneally held firm and made a few incredible saves.
Christopher’s number 4, Martin Coppinger, tried to keep the scoring level but as the first half progressed, scoring for Christopher’s slowed rapidly. Wolf Tone’s enjoyed the upper hand for the remainder of the first half. Their number 12, Ben Purcell, secured a point and followed it shortly after with a goal. At half-time, Wolf Tone’s kept a 15-point lead.
Wolf Tone’s took over the game in the second half. Another goal from number 8, Barry O’Connell dampened the spirits of the Christopher’s players. It seemed now Christopher’s only hope was stopping the advantage from growing. Christopher’s 13, Coakley, bagged two more points but their defeat was clear through their performance. As Christopher’s subs came on to get a run out, a penalty for Christopher’s put them closer to their rivals. A goal from Wolf Tone’s number 25, who came on as a substitute, sealed the fate of the Christopher’s.
In the end, Wolf Tone’s ran away with the game, and there was little hope for Christopher’s to catch up. The match came to a finish with a final score of Wolf Tone’s 4-11 to Christopher’s 1-7.
